REVIEW: Redonda Tanto Knife by Skallywag Tactical: A Must Have Piece of Gear

A knife on the ground.

If you expect the tools and gear you buy to standup to everything you throw at them than the Redonda Tanto Knife by Skallywag Tactical deserves your attention. This exceptional blade, born from a collaboration with martial artist Bram Frank, blends precision engineering with a combat-ready design. Initially crafted for the United States Marine Corps (USMC), it’s now available to civilians for the first time.

A Blade Built for Versatility

The Redonda Tanto Knife shines with its robust Tanto blade design, perfect for piercing, slashing and even splitting wood. Available in Spear Point or Tanto styles, you can choose between a sleek Black or Satin finish. Additionally, the Bram Modular Tactical System stands out, allowing seamless switches between cutting and breaking functions. As in, the butt of the knife doubles as a breaker, enhancing its self-defense capabilities. I decided to switch out the breaker for the cutter and trust me that the cutter is also a breaker.

Boosting its utility the blade features the innovative Bram Ramp on the upper side. Thoughtfully designed jimping ensures a secure thumb grip, so you maintain control in any situations. Paired with a full-size index sheath and belt mount, this knife stays accessible and well attached to wherever you decide to attach it. Is is discrete? No, but that’s not really the point of a 7.5” blade and a knife with an overall length of 13.25” now is it?

The knife’s construction is top-notch, using high-quality materials to ensure durability. Its PVD coating resists scratches and corrosion, while the skeletonized handle reduces weight without sacrificing strength. while camping I utilized my Redonda cut thick rope with ease and even split some firewood, not a delicate process but blade and its edge held up extremely well.

Why the Redonda Tanto Knife Stands Out

For gear heads, this knife complements your lineup beautifully. Its piercing power rivals the best Tanto blades, making it a standout for self-defense or utility tasks. Furthermore, its sleek design and martial arts roots add a cool factor that’s hard to beat. Unlike generic knives, the Redonda offers a story—a connection to elite military origins.

Transitioning to practical use, it excels in rugged environments or urban settings alike. The nylon sheath with a security snap ensures it stays put, so you’re always ready. Plus, its affordability compared to other high-end fixed-blade knives makes it a no-brainer investment.

Final Thoughts: A Must-Have Blade

The Redonda Tanto Knife by Skallywag Tactical is a great piece of gear. Its versatility, craftsmanship, and features set it apart in the crowded knife market. So, if you’re seeking a reliable, stylish blade with a warrior’s spirit, this is it.
