Evolution: The Vickers M7 NGSW Sling for the SIG M7 and Companion GPMG

Building on the proven Vickers Combat Applications Sling platform—co-developed with Blue Force Gear—the design has evolved specifically for the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) family. SIG Sauer secured the contract for the XM7 (now fielded as the M7 rifle in 6.8x51mm) to replace the M4 carbine, and the XM250 (M250 belt-fed GPMG) to succeed the M249 SAW.

The Vickers M7 NGSW Sling is the specialized variant selected and built in direct support of this program. It retains the core trusted features of the original VCAS—patented quick-adjust mechanism for rapid transitions from carry to shooting position, durable construction, and reliability under combat stress—but incorporates enhancements tailored to these heavier, higher-performance weapons:

  • Padded construction for improved comfort during extended patrols or ruck marches, addressing the increased weight of the 6.8mm platforms.
  • Reinforced frontend hardware (machined aluminum components) to withstand heat from suppressors or sustained fire without melting or degrading.
  • 2-point adjustable design with metal quick-adjuster for precise, one-handed tightening/loosening.
  • Compatibility with both the M7 rifle and the M250 GPMG, ensuring squad uniformity.

Official U.S. Army documentation from PEO Soldier (Program Executive Office Soldier, as of February 2024) lists Blue Force Gear Vickers variants (including SAW/M249 slings and related accessories) as authorized/evaluated options for the XM7/XM250 systems. This underscores the sling family’s ongoing military relevance, from the USMC M27 IAR to these cutting-edge NGSW weapons.

Blue Force Gear markets the M7 NGSW Sling commercially (often in coyote brown, starting around $155.95), positioning it as an evolution of the same performance Larry Vickers has championed for decades.

This development reaffirms why quick-adjust two-point slings remain the gold standard: they adapt to emerging threats and weapon systems while delivering the versatility and durability soldiers demand.
