A black handgun.
Rumor has it the Gen 6 pistols will have a fire control unit – FCU – like several other pistols on the market – with the SIG P320 being the most notable.

The G19 pistol in 9 mm Luger is ideal for a more versatile role due to its reduced dimensions. In addition to its use as a conventional service pistol, it is ideal for use as a backup weapon or for concealed carry use.
A black handgun.
The Glock 46 has a 3.9” / 100 mm long barrel features the GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB) profile, which promises higher accuracy.
A black handgun.
The frame design of the GLOCK 17 Gen5 removed the finger grooves for more versatility but still allows to easily customize its grip by using the different back straps. A flared mag-well and a cutout at the front of the frame give the user more speed during reloading when fractions of a second matter. A reversible enlarged magazine catch, changeable at user level as well as the ambidextrous slide stop lever accommodate left and right-handed operators. The rifling and the crown of the barrel were slightly modified for increased precision.

Gen 6 Glock, what it could be

So I have it on good authority that Glock is working on a Gen 6 platform. My source is very reliable and I believe him. Beyond that is some rumor and some of my hopes and dislikes;

My thoughts on both are mixed – the Gen 5 series are very good pistols – in my opinion the best generation of Glocks to date- so I would be very cautious when modifying the platform.

Rumor has it the Gen 6 pistols will be able to be disassembled without pulling the trigger. This was never a good thing but we have lived long enough with the Glock platform that the proper disassembly procedure has become second nature for the majority of shooters. Of course the problem lies in new inexperienced users who either have never fired a handgun or done so very little or have transitioned to the Glock from a different pistol that does not require you to squeeze the trigger to disassemble. So I’m all for this upgrade provided it is easy to do and does not add much complexity to the weapon. Provided this rumor is true I’ll be interested to see how it is executed in the Glock.

Now here are some hopes

I hope it does not feature a rotating barrel like the Glock 46 – I’ve never been a fan of  this approach and the fact that most rotating barrel pistols have been market failures says a lot. The Browning tilting barrel lockup has proven to be without peer – when properly executed- in accuracy , strength and durability. It has dominated for decades for a reason-  It’s simply the best.

I dislike the Glock MOS optic mounting system – compared to others on the market it’s not well designed. I am not alone in this opinion. My hope is Glock would develop a better system – unlikely in my opinion – or at least continue to offer non-MOS versions so end users can have optics direct mounted onto the top of the slide.

I hope they address the one issue that has haunted the Glock from day one- too small of a  finger  radius at the top of the front strap where it meets the trigger guard. Very possibly the number one most popular custom upgrade on Glock pistols today. My gut says based on past generations this simple upgrade will not be incorporated into the Gen 6 Glocks.

Let’s hope they improve the stock trigger – compared to others on the market the trigger in the Glock has always been a weak point. It’s undeniably safe and durable it’s just not a shooter friendly trigger – never has been . Yet another common custom upgrade. I’m going out on a limb and predicting that Glock will improve the stock trigger – at this stage of the game they just about have to.

Magazines I’m sure will remain the same – this is a good thing as Glock OEM magazines by and large are excellent.

Front slide grasping grooves are a standard feature now and I’m sure will stay on the generation 6 guns. Hopefully the generation 5 grip texture and lack of frontstrap finger grooves will remain a feature of the next generation guns. I expect they will.

The interchangeable back strap design has never been that great so an improvement in this area would be welcomed.

The ambi slide release design is good to go and should stay as is. Same for the reversible mag catch as well.

I would assume that Glock will maintain its relationship with Aimpoint and offer the same gun/optic package they do now. This I believe is a good thing.

In closing I would like to reiterate that the Gen 5 Glocks are good guns – my advice to Glock would be to really think things through before making any drastic changes to an already successful product.

As always I welcome feedback and comments- let me hear your thoughts below.

Stay safe, LAV out
