Beretta 1301 Tactical 7+1 Production Halted by ATF Overreach

In a frustrating turn of events for firearm enthusiasts and defenders of the Second Amendment, Beretta USA has been forced to pause production of its highly popular Beretta 1301 Tactical shotgun in the 7+1 capacity. The halt, effective November 4, 2024, stems from a recent and unexpected decision by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)—yet another example of bureaucratic interference disrupting the firearms industry.

ATF Strikes Again

This time, the ATF’s regulatory overreach is targeting the importation of specific components essential to assembling the 1301 Tactical 7+1 in the United States. The details of the ATF’s decision remain murky, but its impact is clear: fewer options for law-abiding Americans who rely on the 1301 Tactical for home defense, competitive shooting, and other lawful purposes.

Beretta is actively engaging the ATF to untangle this vague and restrictive interpretation, but the company’s ability to continue production hinges on navigating the red tape imposed by unelected regulators.

What Does This Mean for Gun Owners?

While production has paused, existing inventory is still available. If you’ve been considering adding the Beretta 1301 Tactical 7+1 to your collection, now is the time to act. Dealers nationwide continue to stock this shotgun—supplies are limited, and with the ATF’s actions causing uncertainty, future availability remains in question.

Meet the 1301 Tactical C: A Temporary Solution

In response to the ATF’s interference, Beretta USA is introducing the Beretta 1301 Tactical C, a 5+1 configuration that still delivers the exceptional performance the 1301 Tactical is renowned for. While this is a step down in capacity, it’s a testament to Beretta’s commitment to providing solutions for American shooters—even under challenging circumstances.

Why the 1301 Tactical Remains King

Despite regulatory roadblocks, the Beretta 1301 Tactical’s reputation remains untarnished. Recently, the shotgun earned 2024 Industry Choice Awards (ICA) Shotgun of the Year—for the second year running. Its reliability, durability, and cutting-edge design have made it a top choice for everyone from professional users to everyday defenders of their homes and loved ones.

A Call for Accountability

The ATF’s actions highlight an ongoing issue in the firearms community: overreach that punishes law-abiding citizens and businesses while doing little to improve safety or address real crime. It’s critical that enthusiasts, advocates, and organizations push back against arbitrary interpretations of the law that stifle innovation and limit access to effective tools for self-defense and sport.
