August GUNS Features the Henry Homesteader

As FMG Special Projects Editor Roy Huntington notes, “In a world of tactical pistol-caliber carbines, the Henry Homesteader brings old-school looks into a modern utility-gun package.” The 9mm carbine is featured in the August issue of GUNS Magazine.

“It proved reliable, accurate, handy, versatile and could easily be your ‘one gun’ if needed,” he summarizes. “This is a long gun friendly to new shooters, smaller-statured people, wives, husbands, kids, farmers, suburban dwellers or virtually anyone in need of protection — or a reliable working assistant.”

Perhaps the GLOCK company motto should have been “Quest for perfection,” as Massad Ayoob suggests in his review of the latest iteration of the GLOCK 21, the Gen5, in “The Quest Continues.” Introduced in 1990 with 13+1 capacity, the light polymer-framed G21 quickly became the nation’s most popular police .45 Auto and many armed citizens bought one too. Now, the Gen5 delivers features such as a flat-front grip, modular optics system (MOS), ambidextrous slide-stop lever, flared magazine well and tapered front slide edges.

Topping the August Firearms Package Giveaway is a Ruger LC Carbine (Model 19300) that features a threaded barrel, adjustable stock and 20-round magazine. The winner will also receive a Native 5 Lightweight knife from Spyderco and a Wedge from Streamlight. Valued at $1,281.50 readers are encouraged to enter the free drawing online at GunsMagazine.com/giveaways.

Additional highlights in August GUNS include why sometimes “good enough” really is good enough, as Dave Anderson contends of the Stevens Model 325 in the Rifles installment. John Taffin completes his series on some of the original handgun cartridges loaded with black powder with a look at the .38 and .44 Specials in the Handloading column. And in Shooter’s Rx, Will Dabbs, MD explains how one .22 rifle changed the world in 1946 with a little help from a young Elvis Presley and his mom, Gladys.
