Oklahoma Hunter Drawn for Colorado Special Deer License

Salt Lake City, Utah: The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) announced today that Trevor Keeler of Atoka, Oklahoma won the drawing for the Colorado special deer license.

“I can’t believe I won, I bought six tickets and my wife also bought six tickets” said Keeler.

Colorado has an active mule deer conservation program working to restore habitat and rebuild populations of this iconic game species. Funds generated from the raffle have been used to support MDF’s mission in Colorado as well as a variety of projects that will benefit mule deer in the state. Specific habitat improvement projects include the removal of encroaching pinyon pines and juniper and development of water resources and guzzlers. The Mule Deer Foundation works closely with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to administer the raffle drawing.

“The Mule Deer Foundation appreciates the opportunity to partner with Colorado Parks and Wildlife on offering the mule deer tag to raise much needed funds for conservation,” noted Miles Moretti, MDF President/CEO. “The funding allows CPW and MDF to implement projects that benefit mule deer and other wildlife species. MDF is able to market these tags across the country through our vast network of avid big game hunters.”

“We greatly appreciate the support from ticket buyers and enjoy the opportunity to work with Colorado Parks and Wildlife on this special tag raffle,” commented Marty Holmes, MDF’s Regional Director for the state of Colorado. “These programs are a unique way for state agencies to raise revenues for their mule deer conservation efforts and to allow lucky hunters the opportunity to hunt throughout the state for some of our great mule deer.”

The purpose of the Mule Deer Foundation is to ensure the conservation of mule deer, black-tailed deer and their habitat.

MDF is dedicated to the following goals:

  • To restore, improve and protect mule deer habitat (including land and easement acquisitions) resulting in self-sustaining, healthy, free ranging and huntable deer populations.
  • To encourage and support responsible wildlife management with government agencies, private organizations and landowners.
  • To promote public education and scientific research related to mule deer and wildlife management.
  • To support and encourage responsible and ethical behavior and awareness of issues among those whose actions affect mule deer.
  • To support regulated hunting as a viable component of mule deer and black-tailed deer conservation.
  • To develop programs that focus on recruitment and retention of youth into the shooting sports and conservation.
